Nutrition Counseling & Medical Nutrition Therapy
Personalized nutrition. Evidence-based guidance. Real-life solutions.
Whether you are managing a health condition, struggling with digestive or hormonal concerns, working to improve your metabolic health, or simply ready to feel better, nutrition can be a powerful part of your health care.
As a Registered Dietitian and Integrative Health Coach, I combine evidence-based nutrition science with a personalized, whole-person approach. Together, we will look beyond simply what you are eating to understand the bigger picture, including your health history, lifestyle, symptoms, labs, medications, habits, and goals.
Good nutrition isn't about following a perfect diet. It is about understanding what your body needs and building habits you can actually sustain.
Progress Over Perfection. Always.
How I Can Help
Nutrition impacts nearly every system in the body, and your needs are uniquely yours. I work with clients seeking support in areas including:
Gut and digestive health
IBS, SIBO, reflux and other digestive concerns
Metabolic health and blood sugar management
Pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes
Cardiovascular health
High cholesterol and blood pressure
Menopause and perimenopause
Hormonal changes
Weight management and body composition
Inflammation and autoimmune conditions
Food sensitivities and intolerances
Healthy aging
General wellness and disease prevention
Not sure where you fit? That is okay. We will start by looking at the whole picture and determining what makes the most sense for YOU.
Personalized Nutrition Care
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition. Your recommendations are tailored to your health needs, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
Why Work With a Registered Dietitian?
Medical Nutrition Therapy
Nutrition can play an important role in the prevention and management of many health conditions. As a Registered Dietitian, I provide evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy designed to complement your overall medical care.
A Whole-Person Approach
Food matters, but so do sleep, stress, movement, medications, hormones, gut health, your environment, and your relationship with food. We look at the full picture.
Sustainable Change
No quick fixes. No extreme diets. We will focus on realistic strategies that help you make meaningful changes you can maintain.
Science Without the Noise
Nutrition information can be overwhelming. Social media, wellness trends, supplements, and the latest "miracle" solution can make it difficult to know what to believe.
Part of my job is helping you separate evidence-based nutrition from misinformation and good marketing, so you can make informed decisions about your health.
Phil's Nutrition Philosophy
RESET. REFUEL. REWIRE.
This would be a great visual section with three columns.
RESET: Reduce the noise.
We start by looking at what is happening now, your eating patterns, symptoms, lifestyle, health history, labs, medications, stress, sleep, movement, and other factors that may be affecting how you feel.
The goal is NOT restriction or perfection. It is awareness.
REFUEL: Give your body what it needs.
Together, we will build a nutrition strategy that supports your individual needs, with an emphasis on nutrient-dense foods, adequate protein, fiber, healthy fats, smart carbohydrates, hydration, and the nutrients your body needs to function well.
It is NOT about eating less. It is about nourishing better.
REWIRE: Turn what you have learned into habits that last.
Knowing what to do is only part of the equation. Together, we will work on practical strategies that help you apply what you have learned to real life, restaurants, travel, family, busy schedules, holidays and everything in between.
Because the goal is not to eat perfectly for a few weeks. It is to build a healthier way of living that you can actually maintain.
Initial Nutrition Assessment
Your first appointment gives us the opportunity to look at the whole picture.
We will review your health and nutrition history, current eating patterns, symptoms, lifestyle, medications and supplements, relevant laboratory results, health concerns, and personal goals.
From there, we will identify priorities and begin developing an individualized nutrition plan that makes sense for you.
You will not leave with a generic meal plan or an overwhelming list of things you're suddenly "not allowed" to eat.
You will leave knowing where we are starting, what we are working toward, and what to focus on first.
How It Works
Follow-Up Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition care is not a one-and-done conversation.
Follow-up visits allow us to assess your progress, address challenges, review symptoms and relevant health information, adjust your nutrition plan, and continue building on what's working.
The number and frequency of follow-up appointments will depend on your individual needs, health goals, progress, and insurance benefits when applicable.
Instead of asking you to purchase a predetermined package of visits, we will determine together what level of support makes sense for you.
Insurance & Payment
Nutrition Counseling May Be Covered by Your Insurance
Nourish by Phil is pleased to accept select plans from:
Aetna
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Cigna
UnitedHealthcare
Insurance coverage for nutrition counseling and Medical Nutrition Therapy varies by individual plan and benefits.
Depending on your specific plan, diagnosis, deductible and benefits, you may be responsible for a copay, coinsurance, deductible, or services not covered by your insurance.
Acceptance of an insurance carrier does not guarantee coverage or payment for services.
We encourage clients to verify their nutrition benefits before beginning care so they understand their individual coverage and any anticipated out-of-pocket responsibility.
Don't see your insurance listed?
Private-pay nutrition counseling options are available for clients without nutrition benefits or whose insurance plans I do not currently accept.
Out-of-network benefits may also be available, depending on your individual insurance plan.
Ready to Take Control of Your Health?
You do not need another list of foods you are "allowed" and "not allowed" to eat, and you do not need to be perfect.
You need reliable information, personalized guidance, and a plan that makes sense for your health, your body, and your life.
Whether you are managing a medical condition, trying to improve your gut or metabolic health, navigating menopause, or simply ready to make your health a priority, we will start where you are and build from there.
RESET what is no longer serving you.
REFUEL your body with what it needs.
REWIRE the habits that shape your health.
Progress Over Perfection. Always.

UPDATED FAQ’S
Do you accept health insurance?
Yes. Nourish by Phil accepts select Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare plans for eligible nutrition counseling and Medical Nutrition Therapy services. Coverage varies by individual plan, so acceptance of your insurance carrier does not guarantee that your visits will be covered.
Will my insurance cover my visits?
It may. Nutrition benefits vary significantly between insurance plans. Coverage can depend on your specific policy, diagnosis, deductible, referral requirements, number of allowed visits, and other plan-specific criteria. We recommend verifying your nutrition benefits before your first appointment.
Will I have any out-of-pocket expenses?
Possibly. Depending on your individual insurance benefits, you may be responsible for a copay, coinsurance, deductible, or services that are not covered by your plan. You are ultimately responsible for charges not covered by your health insurance.
What if you don't accept my insurance?
You can still work with me. Private-pay nutrition counseling options are available for clients without nutrition benefits or whose insurance plans I do not currently accept. Out-of-network benefits may also be available, depending on your individual insurance plan.
Are Phil Knows Food programs covered by insurance?
No. Signature programs and wellness offerings are separate from Medical Nutrition Therapy and are offered as private-pay services.
Where are you licensed as a Registered Dietitian?
I am a Registered Dietitian licensed in both New Jersey and South Carolina, allowing me to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to clients in both states.
Do you offer in-person and virtual appointments?
Yes. I offer secure virtual Telehealth appointments to clients located in New Jersey and South Carolina. In-person appointments are also available in New Jersey and South Carolina, based on location and scheduling availability.
What if I live outside New Jersey or South Carolina?
If you live outside New Jersey or South Carolina, you may still be able to work with me virtually in my capacity as an Integrative Health Coach, where permitted. These nonclinical services focus on nutrition education, healthier habits, and long-term wellness goals, rather than Medical Nutrition Therapy.
